Alyssa Berger, LMSW
Licensed Master Social Worker
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker who specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, and relationship conflicts. I help my clients identify troubling thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns with the goal of shifting to healthier and more adaptive perspective and decision making.
I work with an eclectic, integrative approach and base my practice techniques on the unique needs of the individual, as psychotherapy is not based upon a "one size fits all" approach. I pay close attention to the relationships within a client's life, and incorporate techniques from both cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy. I provide tools on how to effectively alter maladaptive thoughts and behaviors, while also taking into consideration the individual's history and past experiences.
I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative experience and I understand the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship. Therefore, I take an active approach with my clients and hope to work together throughout the therapeutic process. I strive to create a non-judgmental, warm environment where clients feel safe to speak freely. I hope that my clients will leave each session feeling as though progress is being made towards their goals.
I completed my undergraduate education at Colgate University, where I majored in Psychology. Throughout my studies at this institution, I gained knowledge on psychological concepts and therapeutic treatment. Additionally, I completed research and became a published author in a research-based psychology journal.
My clinical training formally began at New York University's Silver School of Social Work, where I completed two years of training in both an outpatient and school setting. I was trained to treat various anxiety disorders, trauma, and other mental illnesses. I greatly expanded my clinical skills, and acquired knowledge on diagnosis and treatment.
